This is one of the lager bugs at 4.9mm and a species of upland habitats . It can be found among boulders, usually with Sphagnum but it can be in more drier areas away from water. Adults are found in June, July and August but there is little further information on it’s life cycle. It is assumed that it’s predatory feeding on a range of small invertebrates but again there is no specific information available.
In Britain since 1990 it has been found on Thorne Moors in South Yorkshire, Cold Fell and Rundale Fell in Cumbria and Rum, Torridon and Ben Loyal in Scotland. In 2025 it was also found in Glen Doll in the Cairngorms.

It can be identified by a combination of features including the pronotum with straight margin, strongly convergent sides, second antennal segment without long hairs, and a black margin to the wing case interrupted by a yellow patch towards the apex.
