This is a mediterranean bug first found in Britain in August 1904 on the Dorset side of Poole Harbour and has remained in this area. It has been found occasionally since but the last time being from Arne in 1964. It is found in the upper edge of the tidal zone, often bordering heathland, among tidal litter and cord-grass on sandy silt. The habitat is submerged by high spring tides (Cook 2015).
The larval development takes place in June and early August with adults present during August and September.
It is a short (3.4-3.8mm) broadly oval bug with long dense pubescence over much of it’s body. It is very similar to Saldula pilosella but smaller with more sharply defined wing markings.
